Here is what our customers are saying about this product.

"While I am new to Linux, I have been doing computer hardware and software for the last 18 years.

"This book was helpful in getting the right software configuration set up, but did not cover any additional information. This was good, but I had to do other research to find out how to use the web server, as this was my first build.

"Thanks to the authors,
Edward Stammer"

"The book is very well explained and gives an excellent introduction to the world of Linux."

"A great product with great people to work with. As a college bookstore, it has allowed our students to learn with up-to-date material at a reasonable and affordable rate."

"This book appears to have some good stuff in it, but be warned.. it is based pretty much exclusively on Fedora Linux. I know, I know... the description made this clear. However, I was hoping to learn some basics about Apache configuration, but everything in this book is based on using Fedora's HTTP configuration GUI tool. This would be fine if the book showed the end result (generated httpd.conf file). However, it doesn't. So, if you are using any other flavor of Linux or are hoping to get some good Apache configuration tips, go elsewhere (or buy a vanilla Apache book to go along with this). The rest of the content in the book seems promising and there may be some nuggets in there."

"I found with the book that the assumption is that the person has a good foundation in Linux. Unfortunatly I do not. So it seemed that it led me to some walls. Eg: PHP testing. I ended up with a blank screen. Unfortunatly there was nothing in the error log. So one would assume no error that it was working? Next, the book took me up to Apache working but not how I host the web site and link to the web page. So I'm still not sure where the web page goes so that if someone browsers to a web page they see it. All fun and games.
I did like the book though. It worked very well on getting Apache up and running. Now I guess it's more books to fine tune it and host a web page."

"I didn't walk away from this read with the confidence I had hoped to gain re: Linux. There is a lot of good information here, but there also seems to be some assumption with familiarity of the system and its tools that a complete Linux novice like myself didn't have.

"Typically I've turned to Sitepoint as a source for initial exposure and a fundamental understanding of technologies before delving into them deeper through more technical writings like O'Reilly publications and hands-on experimentation. I usually haven't been dissapointed, but I didn't quite get that from this book.

"I wouldn't necessarily discourage anyone from investing in it though. It could just be me, but it will take a few reads before I glean all that I can from this book and I'm not sure what I do learn will be as complete an introduction to Linux and Apache as I'd hoped for. Then again, it's the only volume I've read on the subject so my comments need to be taken with that in mind."

"I really thought it would cover more advanced topics, though this book is really awesome for anyone starting out with linux. I gave it to my girlfriend for her to get a better understanding of our desktop environment."

"This is a good book, a good book when you know relativly nothing about anything."

Morgan Frame 5 stars, 15 Feb 2007

"I am very pleased with the book as i am new to linux and apache, i found it to be very informative thanks, few things not quite sure about as they are not covered in the book but it is still a great read, thank you."

"As yet, I have not received my books. I cannot track them on your website. I don't know what happened to them. Given the time of year, I will wait until the end of January, however I feel that they are unlikely to arrive. I know it is not your fault, but as I suspect there is nothing you can realistically do to resolve the situation."

Kamalan Govender 0.5 stars, 3 Jan 2007

"Great. It would be even better if you lower your prices."

Nayef Copty 5 stars, 24 Dec 2006

"I like the book but haven't finished it just yet. I'll let you know once I do."

Ali Starkley 5 stars, 1 Dec 2006

"I think its great. I've tried to installing and using linux myself many of time and have had so many problems, i've ended up reverting back to windows. But this books walks you through it step by step and in quite simple terms. Definitly worth the buy!"

Mathew Chapman 5 stars, 7 Nov 2006

"Great book, except a bit more info on virtual servers and how to attach users to them. Everything else was explained really simply."
