Here is what our customers are saying about this product.
"I got both the hardcopy and the PDF version - this way I have access both at home and work. The book really provides good advice in terms of best practices. I have always shyed away from scripting because of all the incompatabilities, but this book really helped me understand both the present reality and the future of scripting. The one gripe I have is that there is something wrong with the PDF version, and no matter what word or phrase you search for, it will never find it."
, 21 Aug 2007 "Excellent read. Very informative without being too technical for those of us who code as a hobby."
, 12 Aug 2007 "The explanation is OK but the examples of code are choppie and in many cases your guessing how he is going about writing it since bits and pieces are missing. Most I can not get to work without modifing the example code. I have learned more from free internet sites than what I have from this paid book. Hope the .net book is better or i'll let many know to pass on sitepoint."
, 26 Jul 2007 "With this book, I my web site projects to be more cleans, organizeds and atratactives."
, 14 Jul 2007 "Fantasic book! The most practical way of learning JavaScript and DOM. This book has proven to be the most beneficial information to web site design and construction beyond harnessing CSS, using proper HTML and the power of PHP. This ia a definite must read for anyone wanting to provide user input and interaction and all of the fundamentals for starting AJAX.
"Make sure to also get SitePoint's Javascript poster -- not only very useful, but also helps in learning the world of DOM."
, 12 Jul 2007 "Great book. Stuart Langridge ties it all together in an easy to understand and enjoyable read."
, 1 Jul 2007 "Once again another top notch book from sitepoint, i own four books at this stage and each one has been invaluable to me on my web design career. Many thanks to all at sitepoint on providing truely outstanding resources and support!!"
, 13 Apr 2007 "Very instructive and to the point. Short on basic JavaScript, so some grounding in JavaScript is necessary. At a first glance the book covers an awful lot of ground on comparatively few pages, so you have to work at it if you're not very adept at scripting.
I am looking forward to going thru the examples."
, 13 Feb 2007 "Top notch book. I read/ perused several books on CSS and just didn't "get it".
this book, however, taught the way i'm rigged up to learn. it was the book that finally broke the ice for me."
, 1 Nov 2006 "Maybe I would have preferred a more "cookbook-style" approach, but the explanations and the examples are very well presented, and eventually a better grasp of the subject will be obtained"
, 20 Oct 2006 "I was very pleased with this title. The approach it takes to DOM scripting is unique, it's simply used for adding extras to a page yet degrading gracefully in browsers that don't support it. It was quite fast paced and covered a lot of ground, I'm re-reading at the moment and will re-read some more I'm sure. The beer jokes were good for a little light hearted entertainment too.
"A happy customer."
, 23 Aug 2006 "The book is well written and what’s more very informative - helps you understand all aspects of modern web design."
, 22 Aug 2006 "This was the first book for me abou DOM and scripting, I use some of the examples which I adopted for my specific needs. Good book for me."
, 19 Aug 2006 "I purchased this book along with "Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS" to move on from the table-based page design with inline CSS and inline JavaScript (targetted at IE only) that I currently maintain (what a nightmare!).
I found this book easy to read and picked up a lot of concepts very quickly. I particularly like the chapters on DOM Events and Browser Detection - very well handled.
I was quite pleased with the rapid progress I made in rewriting some of the ugly pages I maintain. The code is now easier to read and easier to maintain. Thanks Stuart and SitePoint!"
, 6 Jul 2006 "The book is a very good way of getting up to speed in DOM JavaScript. I found it an ideal in-between step from light JavaScript knowledge to getting started with AJAX.
It helped me understand how to deal with cross-browser JavaScript that works properly, without using dark-magic.
As usual with this kind of books, the way to get the most out of it is by actually redoing the examples by yourself."
