I have always shyed away from scripting because of all the incompatabilities, but this book really helped me understand both the present reality and the future of scripting. The one gripe I have is that there is something wrong with the PDF version, and no matter what word or phrase you search for, it will never find it."

"The explanation is OK but the examples of code are choppie and in many cases your guessing how he is going about writing it since bits and pieces are missing. Most I can not get to work without modifing the example code. I have learned more from free internet sites than what I have from this paid book. Hope the .net book is better or i'll let many know to pass on sitepoint."

"Very instructive and to the point. Short on basic JavaScript, so some grounding in JavaScript is necessary. At a first glance the book covers an awful lot of ground on comparatively few pages, so you have to work at it if you're not very adept at scripting.
I am looking forward to going thru the examples."

"I was very pleased with this title. The approach it takes to DOM scripting is unique, it's simply used for adding extras to a page yet degrading gracefully in browsers that don't support it. It was quite fast paced and covered a lot of ground, I'm re-reading at the moment and will re-read some more I'm sure. The beer jokes were good for a little light hearted entertainment too.

"I purchased this book along with "Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS" to move on from the table-based page design with inline CSS and inline JavaScript (targetted at IE only) that I currently maintain (what a nightmare!).
I found this book easy to read and picked up a lot of concepts very quickly. I particularly like the chapters on DOM Events and Browser Detection - very well handled.
I was quite pleased with the rapid progress I made in rewriting some of the ugly pages I maintain. The code is now easier to read and easier to maintain. Thanks Stuart and SitePoint!"

It helped me understand how to deal with cross-browser JavaScript that works properly, without using dark-magic.
