One of the simpliest + greatest books to learn SQL. Very useful. I totally recommend it.

Rudy has always been a fixture of help in the SQL and MySQL forums.
His book 'Simply SQL' is terrific in that it is simply presented, a healthy dose of humor, and information that is structed in the way to lear SQL logically. By the time you read it cover to cover you walk away with a bevy of knowledge that immediately helps your Database design and scripting.

I had no clue SQL had this much power! I love this book, it's broken down very well and teaches you to fully understand what you're doing with every type of clause. I'm doing things much quicker and saving a lot of time rather than thinking about a solution through PHP when I can do almost all of it in one Query. I also found the book very nicely printed with a good font size.

I thought this was a great book. An easy read, yet it made me think about the sql syntax and flow in a different, and better way. I was hoping the book would explain a lot of the whys, instead of just the hows, and I wasn't let down.
I think most beginner and intermediates would be happy having read this.

This author has defied all expectations and has written a _reader-based_ text on data-base programming -- something a complete novice can read and use. Who woulda thunk?
I picked up _Simply SQL_ and won't need another SQL text, aside from some desk references for cross-referencing (if that).
For starters, _Simply SQL_ gave me the information I needed to translate my design into DDL code... though the relevant chapter was short. I had a working data-base within couple weeks of picking up the book (working in the evenings and weekends).
Now I'm writing queries, and guess what? No problem. Not only am I writing working queries, but I know what they're doing, as the author goes out of his way to explain the SQL execution process -- in readable, understandable language.
I'll be mucking around in this stuff for quite awhile before I'm "fluent." But, thanks to this text, I definitely have the tools.

An excellent SQL intro and tutorial. My only quibble is the lack of different RDBMS equivalents. For instance some things that work in MySQL do not work in Oracle and vice versa. The author makes note of this but I would have liked to have seen a bit more detail in this regard.
If you're just interested in the SQL standard, though, this book is excellent. Well worth the price and time spent.
