Ideal intro to Rails. I changed my hosting provider to one which supports Rails and have not looked back.
Adrian Evans, USA
I have been searching for months for a good Rails 2 book, and, at last, I think I have found it. It doesn't start with a 100 page tutorial, but actually takes the time to coherently explain the underlying structure. The diagrams are great -- if anything, the book could use more, e.g., showing the tie between controller actions and views.
If I were to teach a course in Rails -- and I very well might -- this would be the book I'd pick.
Michael Rogers, USA
I've been an admirer of the Rails framework for quite a while, but I never really got around to learning how to use it. A few days ago I finally decided to take the plunge. I needed a book.
Simply Rails 2 is at the time of writing the only book for beginners written with Rails 2.x in mind, so the choice was simple.
I'm very impressed with both the writing and examples in the book. In just two days my understanding of Ruby on Rails has improved a lot, and I already feel like I'm ready to start playing around on my own.
If you're new to Rails, this book is a great introduction. Throughout the whole book you'll be working on one example app. Watching "my" application as it started to blossom was very enjoyable.
