Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL

Reader Reviews

Here some of the things people have been saying about this and other SitePoint books.

This book is the best introduction I ever read about the PHP/MySQl topic. Beginners will find limpid explanations and understand immediately how things work, and how to make them work properly. A second volume about advanced topics and Object Oriented Programming would be on the top my shopping list...

I prefer books that are more like quick reference manuals with short concise examples of how to use functions/commands or best practice techniques. This is of course my personal opinion and I would imagine that the majority of people like the style that is used in this book. The OpenBAK™ Eurobind Binding feature doesn’t seem to work unless it is open right in the middle, however I can live it.

I just recieved the package, i live in Sudan and shipping time was more than just amazing, i bought "Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL" and "The PHP Anthology". and i think every developer has to have those good references on his/her desk.

I am new to PHP and MySQL after coming from the mainframe world and this book was excellent. I love the way it conveys it's concepts.

I love this book. It help me pass my semester this fall. It explains what you need to learn to the point. I definitely recommended.

I found the book very helpful. I found the some comments from Kevin such as "It looks pretty scary, huh?" off-putting. I don't mind the casual comments throughout the book but there is a limit... especially since the audience needs some computer expertise in order to read the book. I can't imagine anyone who could handle the content as being "scared"

I really enjoyed reading “Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL”. It was a very easy read and just as easy to understand. I would have to say the only disappointment for me was that there was not more on building a CMS as this was the main reason for purchasing.

It worked! I was able to create a database driven website. The text was well done. however... 1. the index was obsolete - the page numbers listed did not apply - maybe for the previous version? 2. the index was incomplete - trying to find something I had read the day before was very time consuming. For example - retreiving the number of records in a table. I knew it was in there, but what chapter? 3. the software installation didn't work. I used my Yahoo site for development but I am not able to work off line. The forum was not helpful - there was quick response but it didn't help. I saw that other people had the same problem but the common cure was to download a different product from somewhere else.

Very informative book. It covers the basic fundamental building blocks. It helped to build on the PHP and MySQL skills I had while highlighting some proper coding procedure. I actually have started working on a few online projects and am working towards getting some web-based applications coded

I was pleasantly suprised when this fabolus book come to me in about 10 working days. I must admit that Kevin's tutorial (few years ago) - which ended in this book, BTW - was made me to switch to php from asp, where i am still. What elese to say? GREAT WORK! All the best!

I was a bit tired of the drag of coding HTML all the time, and I had a few ideas that involved the interactive storing and production of data. In short I needed to know how to make my web pages database driven cheaply and quickly. I didn't want to muck about trying to understand computer theories or to spend money on proprietary software you need a Ph.D to run - so this book went right down my lane. It is helping me set up the webpages I want now, rather than later. Great stuff!
