To support the victims of the Australian bushfires we’ve created our best book deal ever. For the next 3 days, you can pick any 5 books (in PDF format) and pay for only 1. That’s about $150 worth of books for just $29.95!
100% of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal..
Yes, we’re serious: 100%. If you buy 5 PDFs for $29.95, then $29.95 is donated. Our ambitious target is to raise more than $50,000 to help the families and communities affected by this tragedy.
We’re offering our entire range of books — from PHP to Project Management — for the sale; designers, developers, freelancers, managers, and business owners alike will all be able to choose a selection of professional books to enjoy.
You have just 3 days to treat yourself to this amazing deal, courtesy of SitePoint, and know that you’re helping Australian families in need. What are you waiting for?

I just bought my 5 books and donated at the same time. I also featured this post on my blog. I encourage everyone to donate and get the books.
Well done SitePoint – I love you and your commitment to help our planet and the lives that live on it!

Huge tragedy, great deal! Just bought 5 books.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
I’ve just posted in my blog to spread in ES and MX this awesome and great initiative.
Thumbs up, both, in all senses. Keep up this great spirit.
February 10th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
I commend Sitepoint on this initiative. It offers another way for Sitepoint’s many subscribers to contribute to those in need following the fires.
However, I look forward to seeing a further donation above and beyond any book proceeds. After all, any and all donations to the Red Cross appeal over $2 AUD are tax deductible – and I know of no business that will turn down a tax deduction, good cause or otherwise.
The combined bonus of offloading excess stock for a tax deduction is one thing – but putting one’s self out to help someone in need means so much more.
Help set the example, Sitepoint. Show the Aussie spirit proudly.

@bango thanks for the featuring it on your blog — it’s appreciated!
February 10th, 2009 at 11:13 pm
@ShayneTilley: You’re welcome – it’s the least I could do.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
@TheAnarchist – The books are all PDF downloads; it’s not like we have boxes of excess physical books we need to shift, though we do have plenty of electrons to send down the pipe :)
February 10th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
@TheAnarchist: Sure, it’s promotion for Sitepoint (but not shifting of excess stock!!), but I have no problem with that. The money is going to people who need it, and hopefully this promotion will make people around the world more aware of the terrible losses and damage in Australia. That’s good enough for me!

Just bought mine.
A great cause, and a noble gesture by Sitepoint.
It’s an excellent thing you are doing.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:18 am
Excellent offer for a very good cause. I hope the proceeds will make a real difference during this tragic time.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:57 am
I probably would’ve kicked myself for not helping this cause later. I would’ve said, “Wow the human race has SOME good in it for all those that donated money to help those people.” But would’ve been left out.
Thanks SitePoint. I know you guys aren’t making profit off of this, but as a thank you for giving me the initiative to get off my own @$$ and do something for a good cause (and get a good deal), I will be ordering a hard copy of one of your books by end of the week.
Thank you guys so much for what you’re doing.

Very thoughtful – these fires sound absolutely frightening.
Just need to figure out which 5 to get – so many good titles!
February 11th, 2009 at 1:07 am
Terrific deal – when I first read I thought the books were physical lol! But I figured pretty quick… still a terrific deal and well done guys. I get to donate to a much-needed cause and get 5 wicked books at the same time!
I have tweeted this about 500 times :P and some of my followers have retweeted, might also blog about it :D
Jack.

Just checking, is this supposed to be from a selection of your books or all of them? I’d like to get the outsourcing one but it’s not showing on the list.
February 11th, 2009 at 4:50 am
@TheAnarchist
As a spouse of a SitePoint employee, these guys and girls have worked their backsides off to make this offer happen, and if everyone took their lead the Bushfire Appeals figures would be even more sensational than it already is.
SitePoint are an excellent example of the Aussie spirit… even the ones based outside of Australia! :o)
Love your work,
K

I’d also like to get “Outsourcing Web Projects: 6 Steps to a Smarter Business”, but it’s not on the list, can you include it in?
February 11th, 2009 at 7:52 am
I am a New South Wales man and we all know too well the sibling rivalry between the 2 states of New South Wales and Victoria. But this tragedy highlights also the unity between the 2 states no matter what.
In the midst of such an uncertain world with all the issues that are around, and for us “geeks” who tend to lose ourselves in such a technical world, Sitepoint has undeniably stepped up to the plate and has made a statement to all about what it is to be human!
Thank you Sitepoint! You deserve all the recognition you receive.
February 11th, 2009 at 9:06 am
One of the best things I’ve ever read.
Great idea, I will help you with this

“Flipping Web Sites For Profits”, where can I find more details on this book?
February 11th, 2009 at 9:49 am
I’m sure these are being the best spent 30$ of the year.
I also wrote a post in some CMS forum. SOme other users “hooked” on the iniciative.
February 11th, 2009 at 9:53 am
@RB!, It’s a 30 page e-book, that has since turned into the Website Revenue Maximizer Kit (http://www.sitepoint.com/kits/revenue1/), we thought we’d make it available again for the 5 for 1 deal. Here’s a short excerpt for your information:
“…we’ll see how you can become a site-flipping mogul almost overnight! We’ll look at the steps involved in assessing a web site as an investment, talk turkey about valuing a site, and discuss the negotiation process. We’ll consider just a few of the ways in which you can add value to your new asset quickly and affordably. We’ll then investigate the task of selling the site—preparing to sell, finding somewhere to sell, and making sure you receive the best price for your asset.”
February 11th, 2009 at 9:56 am
@TheBrewPig – Thank you for hanging in there while we pulled this mammoth task off!
To all the people who have retweeted, blogged, posted and emailed others to help us get the word out there, a very BIG THANK YOU! We couldn’t have got this far without your help and to everyone who has taken us up on the offer, thank you for participating!
You guys ROCK!!!
…and we still have 2 days to go, shall we start guessing what figure we’ll hit when the deal is done??? I’m thinking 100,000 is achievable… what do you reckon? Can we get it that far?
February 11th, 2009 at 10:13 am
I will be purchasing some books that I wanted. This is a great deal – and it is great that Sitepoint is donating the 29.95.
February 11th, 2009 at 10:19 am
@RB!
“Outsourcing Web Projects: 6 Steps to a Smarter Business” is on the list, it’s right at the bottom :)
February 11th, 2009 at 10:23 am
I’m glad to know that my purchase is going 100% to the relief effort! An excellent initiative!
Will you be posting updates on how much you manage to raise?
I’m planning a blog post know that includes many relief initiatives, and will add this to the list.
Thanks!

I’d like to get Simply SQL as one of my five books, but I don’t see it on the list. Is that going to be available in this sale?
February 11th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
What a great idea! Now book lovers can help too! I’ve picked and downloaded my five books! Thank you for doing this! I’ve also shouted about it on Facebook. Hope the servers will holdup! :)
February 11th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
My heart goes out to those bushfire victims and families.
This is a very honorable thing for SitePoint to do. Well done.
I have ordered and downloaded my five books.
Keep up the wonderful work, SitePoint team!

Thanks.

Good on you Sitepoint! Your books are great and how pleasing it is to see that your corporate values and sense of community are of an equally high standard. Keep up the the good work!
February 11th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
What a fantastic idea.
I am credit-card less at the moment, and have ceased using paypal, are you guys ever going to consider debit cards or is it too difficult?
Anyhoo, I’d like to donate, so may talk to the other half about using her card for this – kudos guys, awesome effort :)
February 11th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Fantastic idea SitePoint – very commendable.
I’d also like to get Simply SQL as one of my five books, I noticed it was available yesterday but not today. Is it going to be offered in this sale?

Quite the tragedy! I have donated. Sitepoint, thanks for what you do!
February 12th, 2009 at 1:21 am
I’ve been following the news stories about the fires, but I’m embarrassed to admit, when I saw your offer, I was more excited about the books than the cause.
I already have 3 of your paperbacks, but I could not restrain myself, and got 10 pdf’s today. A couple covered topics I probably would have bought books about from somewhere anyway, but most of them I probably would not have considered buying. Eg, I’ve got the first edition of “Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way” at home already, but I got the pdf of the 2nd edition because of the sale. I got some beginner books on subjects I don’t currently have on my plate, eg, Rails. I’ll come here first when I look for intermediate books on some of these topics. Now, I just need time to read all these books!
I had to laugh at the guy who accused you of using a worthy cause to clear out back catalog. Think of the exploited subatomic nano-laborers, furiously picking electrons from bins and driving quantum forklifts around the Sitepoint warehouse as they struggle to keep up with demand.
