The McFarlane Prize for excellence in Australian web design and development, run by our friends at Web Directions, is on again this year. The prize, which began in 2006 in memory of Australian web technologist (and former SitePoint employee) Nigel McFarlane, is open to any Australian web designers or developers, for a site completed between August 1st 2007 and August 31st this year.
The McFarlane Prize recognizes excellence in Australian web design and development in the broadest sense, and is decided by a jury of experts in design, coding, accessibility and usability (including SitePoint’s resident usability blogger Lisa Herrod). Regular readers will remember that last year that the SitePoint Contests web site (which evolved into 99designs) was awarded second prize.
Entry is free, and very simple. Just nominate your site using this form. Be sure to read the criteria for nomination.
The winner of this year’s award will be announced on the final day of the Web Directions South conference in Sydney in September. What happens if you have an Australian office, but the crew work remotely (e.g. they’re in different parts of the globe)? Are you still eligible?

You’d have to double check with the team behind the awards, but the nominations page states that the site “must be designed by a team which works in Australia for an Australian company, or by Australian citizens or permanent residents.”
