Feel free to spread the word to anyone who may be interested in Ruby on Rails, or anyone who just likes getting stuff for free :)
By the way, if you prefer your books in hardcopy format, you can still pick up a print copy directly from us or any major bookstore.
* You’re this far down the page and haven’t already skipped away to download, so I take it you’re looking for the catch, the fine print, or the terms and conditions that may apply. Sorry, but there aren’t any! This offer is as amazing as it seems — a free download of a print-quality book. End of story. Remember: it’s 60 days of Rails madness, not 61, so don’t miss out! But if you really want to give us something in return, donations of premium alcoholic beverages, schwag, and gadgets will be kindly accepted.

Wow this is just awesome! Thanks Sitepoint and Patrick.

This sounded great! I signed up to receive the PDF book, but have not received any link to download the PDF. I did immediately receive the confirmation message for signing up to one of the Sitepoint online newsletters.
Any suggestions on how I can receive the PDF?

Hi redbud it might take a few minutes for the link to come through but it should be there by now.

Now I know how those iPhone users felt, lol. Certainly a good read for anyone though.

Thank you! :-)

Whilst I would agree that it’s a good thing for the limited period of a free download, and that the book will help a lot of people, I have to say that it’s not really a revolutionary web development framework as much as you say it is.
That statement is taking things too far, surely? :p

i’ve been trying to get the pdf to download for a couple of hours now. must be getting slammed…
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:58 am
Hi!, I signed up to receive the PDF book, but have not received any link to download the PDF.
How I can receive the PDF book ?
October 3rd, 2007 at 2:42 am
As with others above, I have not received the book, this is a scam to get your e-mail address!
October 3rd, 2007 at 3:17 am
Did anyone downloaded it? Or is a scam.
October 3rd, 2007 at 3:30 am
I’ve been able to download it, it’s not a scam, they do not resell your email addresses. Some email providers block Sitepoint’s auto-generated email as spam. Hotmail, for instance, seem to now be using a combination of blacklist (junk mail that you NEVER see), and a spam filter (junk mail that you DO see). I only know this because I’ve signed up for their “Junk Email Notifications” to make their filter better, and they sometimes show me possible spam that I’ve NEVER seen, anywhere…
So…first off, check all your email folders (if you have any manual filtering), check your junk/spam/bulk folders. If all else fails, you could try requesting it again to a different email address.

I got it and downloaded it within 5 minutes. Sitepoint is reputable.
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:51 am
It took about 25 minutes to get the email with the link, but it eventually came and I’m downloading it now. Can’t wait to check it out!
October 3rd, 2007 at 5:53 am
Hi, thanks SitePoint! I got the link email within 10 minutes or so, however when I tried to open the downloaded PDF, Acrobat 7 Reader complained that “There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.” Anyone else have this experience? Do I have to upgrade to Acrobat Reader 8?

We’re getting several hundred concurrent requests for the PDF at the moment, so please be patient if the email doesn’t immediately arrive or if you have trouble connecting to the download server.
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:30 am
I can’t get the download page to load. The link came within a few minutes but the link times out every time. Perhaps it’s a traffic issue.

I got a link to a PDF download of ‘”The Web Design Business Kit 2.0″ Which is nice but not what I wanted. One can hope the RoR book will be along ..
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:28 am
Evil marketing ploy to get more newsletter sign ups :) I’m downloading it now and saving it for a rainy day.
BTW, to whoever created the download form, there isn’t really much point in asking someone to sign up to newsletters when the address you enter is already on the mailing list. The form doesn’t quite fit in the window under Firefox either.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:33 am
We’ve experienced massive demand for the PDF with up to 200 simultaneous downloads! As a result we’ve moved the file to our Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to help deal with the demand. This is in effect now so those who’ve had trouble downloading should give it another go.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:35 am
Got the email about 10 minutes after requesting it, but I am having trouble downloading the 22mb file on what is normally a very fast internet connection - No doubt it will work when I try again next time, after the initial buzz has died down.
October 3rd, 2007 at 11:23 am
also got a link for the ”The Web Design Business Kit 2.0″ which is not what I wanted…
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:27 pm
I only got the sample chapters. :(
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:07 pm
I had no problem downloading it so the book is real, and it’s not corrupted so those with Arcobat7 better upgrade to latest version whilst your wait ;)
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:30 pm
where is the link to download the free ebook? someone get the book? or this is a fake?
October 5th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
Someone should put up a torrent for this file.
October 6th, 2007 at 5:00 pm
@phipster:
I got the same error message you did. I was trying to download the PDF with Firefox, and it just wouldn’t work. On a whim, I switched to Internet Explorer and was able to download the PDF with no problem.
October 8th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
wow, thanks to Patrick Lenz and SitePoint! i always wanted this book.
someone said its a scam to get emails; bollocks! the link does come, be patient. SitePoint have far better things to do than devise scams to get email addresses.
