If last month’s “layout complete” preview release of IE7 didn’t get you working on compatibility updates to your web site(s), maybe this will: Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 is now available to end users from the Internet Explorer web site!
Unlike the previous preview releases, Microsoft is pushing hard to get ordinary consumers to try out this new beta. Microsoft is even offering unlimited free phone support for users of the beta in North America, Germany and Japan, in the hopes that it will attract the less tech-savvy to give it a try.
As far as getting your site(s) working in IE7, the words “now or never” come to mind.

Octal and rossbruniges,
While I certainly respect your right to use an older, unsupported operating system, as web developers we have the responsibility to support and test on browsers and platforms besides those we personally use. Just as I must test on Safari even though I’m a Windows user, you will have to test on IE7 even though you’re Win2K users. Such is the price of being a professional web designer.

Hooray for you Kevin! Kudos!. I personally still have to test Win98 using IE 5.5 among many other browsers nyself. I am currently the only one at work who is using IE7 at present as most of my compatriots won’t go for it until SP! is released for it or it is 1 year old.
But Like Kevin said, as a professional web developer I have an obligation to test in the most common environments as dictated by our sites server logs….

Kevin says…
I absolutely disagree. Win2K IS still supported depending on if you are at SP4 and how you look at it. Although it has gone from “mainstream” to “extended” support, the key differences are:
That is 4 years from now! Whether or not Win2K is personal or not is beside the point, I have customers that still use it so IE7 is useless to them.
I agree that IE7 has to be tested, but it also needs to be supported on, well, supported OS’s.

Sharma -
I installed IE7B2 this morning, and I can confirm: the blog column goes nuts with IE7. The only way I found this page again was by scrolling down the page and looking for the one-character-width links that it spewed on there.

Yup, IE7 Beta is out. It has also been installed, run for a month and removed. It appears, like so much Microsoft product to be very ‘heavy’ My install (Intel P4, 2.4) was much slower than the IE6. I don’t care much for the new interface but then like all Microsoft products, one tends to get used to them.

I’ve had the IE7 Beta and I’m quite impressed. I’m just grumpy that my current RSS Reader (Pluck), doesn’t work so I’m forced to use the built-in IE7 reader.

Seems the beta 2 provided to end users is different to the beta 2 preview given to developers through msdn. The end user version doesn’t like Sitepoint one little bit. Also doesn’t like my computer either, keeps seizing up on me.

I have downloaded IEB2 after reading this link. Firefox will remain my preference. I was pleased that my site was only slightly different in rendering probably because it still has tables in use for layout. { I have the latest version on tableless layout under detailed testing }.
I will watch sitepoint to see whether IEB2 amends it’s rendering or sitepoint re writes is layout.
