Sasser Worm

by miseldine

As users of Microsoft software, .NET types need to be aware of the latest security threats.

The newest entrant is Sasser, which delivers a similiar payload to that of the Blaster worm. It’s reportedly already brought down some of the Australian rail network, as well as restarting thousands of Microsoft machines worldwide.

Make sure you’re patched as soon as possible, as once you’re hit, your computer can restart at any time.

Too risky. Worms cause millions of dollars of damage (much of that is time spent by IT workers cleaning up the mess). If an anti-virus company was ever found out to be the source of a worm outbreak they would be sued in to destruction, and almost certainly face criminal charges as well. It’s a fun conspiracy theory but it just doesn’t work out in practise.
