ColdFusion Blogging Scripts

I’ve had a few people come to me looking for blogging scripts and pre-built apps, so I thought it’d be useful to post a few of the resources I found for this. Keep in mind that, although I maintain the blog here on SitePoint, I’m not a big fan of blogging and thus have little experience with it and its terminology. So, I’m not going to be much help when it comes to interfacing with Moveable Type…

For CF5/IIS/Fusebox 3 there is FuseBlog. It allows posting, editing, and deleting entries, RSS 0.92 feeds, categories, archives, multiple users, searching and more.
CFXML_Blog is an open source project available in SourceForge. It is totally XML based, so no data source is required. It offers full UNICODE support, categories, calendar, visual themes editable via a CSS file, XHTML and CSS compliant and recently has added an XHTML compliant WYSIWYG editor.
CF_Blogger is also freely available and has features for Archives, Categories, bookmarks, and the ability to add/edit/delete all of the above.

I’m also thinking that my June article will be something along the lines of how to create your own blogging system. I’m personally of the mentality that “if you want it done right, you’ve got to do it yourself”. That’s not to say at all that you shouldn’t use one of the above systems. But I often find that if I want something that perfectly fits my needs, the only way to go is to code it myself and build in all the features I want and need. So, I’ll work on an article in June that will focus on building your own custom blog system. Enjoy!

Just so you and others know, this guy Christian has somehow integreated Movable Type with Coldfusion over at this link, http://www.markme.com/cantrell/archives/002257.cfm

I’m always curious to hear why people are “not a big fan of blogging ” so care to elaborate???

It just never caught my interest much. Occassionally I do come across a blog that has some good information on it, mainly technology or business blogs with real world perspectives on things as opposed to articles. But, I personally never had any interest in starting a blog myself. I tried it on KodeFusion.com and basically it’s more of a “News” section, which there’s not much of anymore since I’ve been so busy.

So essentially, I’m not a big fan of blogging things myself and I’m not a big fan of personal blogs because unless you know the person in real life, its pretty much useless. Except for IBeBloggin’ (Vinnie G’s blog) and Ensight (Jeremy W.’s). I like theirs and read them from time to time.

How about a blogger that would compete with myspace.com’s cold fusion blogging script… This means.. it would have to be able to accept html and image tags plus give you option to edit and delete…….. BUT IN PHP and MYSQL!

I have used CF Blogger, and its quite nice, easy to figure out, configure, and change to suit your needs…but I must admit that right now, I’m trying my hand at WordPress….

Hi jag5311, Following up on your post. Christian is using Movable Type and added in his ColdFsuion stuff. So I guess it is a MOD of Movable Type.

Yes movable type is awesome. It’s not specific to any language. You use their tag and name the file to generate and If your template is .cfm well it will be read as such. So all you’re cold fusion tag is executed.

I installed it with cold fusion and I didn’t feel like I was pushed in using php.

With regards to Movable Type and ColdFusion, am I misunderstanding? I was under the impression PHP was mandatory to run it. Would you not need PHP on the box running Coldfusion?

I am trying to find a way to have a cold fusion blog that will allow for multiple users to be editors AND have basic readers to have to register on the site if they want to post comments to articles. So that was one task…but just in case i will try and push my needs a little more with the feature of
Letting viewers view each other’s profiles and contact each other (social networking). I want it all to be integrated into a fully functional and slightly complicated cold fusion site.

Any ideas?
