SitePoint Crowdsourcing Play On-track to $1 Million
Friday 9th February, 2007
SitePoint Pty. Ltd. (sitepoint.com) today announced that its new "crowdsourcing" play (SitePoint Design Contests) is on-track to offer over $1 million in prize money, prompting SitePoint CEO and Co-founder to hail the service "a goldmine" for designers and small business.
SitePoint Design Contests, launched just 12 months ago, is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations crowdsource graphic design talent from around the world. Businesses have used the online service to source everything from custom designed logos, to billboard ads, to entire web site designs.
The idea is simple. You pay a $20 USD listing fee, post your design brief online, and offer a prize amount for the winning design. Designers from around the globe then compete for your prize by submitting designs. In the last 3 months alone almost a quarter of a million dollars has been offered in prize money with more than 1,800 designers submitting 38,000 designs in total (or 420 designs a day on average).
"SitePoint Design Contests is a win-win for businesses seeking design talent, and budding designers looking to add work to their folios and make a few extra bucks on the side," said SitePoint CEO and Co-founder Mark Harbottle today.
"This is a real disruptive innovation," continued Harbottle. "As the client you get to see on average 42 different concept designs for the price of a large pizza -- and the best part is there's absolutely no risk: you only award the prize money if you'd like to purchase one of the designs."
